I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

Excellent!
By Tahoma on Nov 10, 2021
My shiba inu had diarrhea problems about every 3 months from 12 weeks to 21 months. Chicken and rice was never enough to treat it and we always ended up at the vet. Fed up with it I asked my vet for a recommendation and this was the food they gave me. He's been on it for a whole year now and hasn't had a single bout of diarrhea. His overall stool volume increased which means usually 3 poops a day now. It took a few weeks for us to get on the new routine but he's adjusted just fine and is doing great. Very much recommend this product for any dogs with recurring diarrhea.

Cured Chronic Diarrhea
By Jessy77 on Oct 23, 2021
I adopted a 3 yr old black mouth cur last year. He had squishy to liquid consistency poop. I tried 5 sensitive stomach foods, probiotics, pumpkin, nothing worked. Multiple vet visits, blood work, antibiotics. Nothing definite. He started not wanting to eat, and his tummy was gurgling all the time. Definitely was reluctant to try the GastoBiome because of the cost. But, it has worked great. Solid poop after 8 months finally. He had been on it consistently for 3 months now. I can finally take him for a walk, and not have to scrub the grass from him making a mess. He is more active, and you can tell he feels better. Worth the $$$, highly recommend.

MAGIC!!! Sheena is a brand new version of herself.
By RXSheenaFood on Oct 14, 2021
My 8 year old Pittie, Sheena, was suffering with loose stools and lethargy after cycling through several brands of food for weight management & sensitive stomach. We even tried senior foods because her energy levels had depleted and she seemed like she was just "growing older." I couldn't watch her suffer any longer, so I took a chance and ordered RX food through Chewy to see if it might help. The very first day I mixed the Hills Gastrointestinal Biome food into her existing senior kibble she made a HUGE improvement. Her energy levels quickly came back, her stool passed as a solid (such a relief for BOTH of us) and my baby-girl started showing more interest in playing again. I am so grateful to Thrive Affordable Pet Care for approving my order without receiving pre-approval. They truly allowed my girl access to food that won't poison her slowly. Forever grateful. Sheena's quality of life is back, and I fully believe it's directly related to this food. We're be loyal customers for the rest of her natural life. Thank you Hills Prescription Diet. Disappointment!
By TwoDogMom on Oct 16, 2021
Neither of our small dogs wanted to eat this dry food. I added bone broth, then I added crushed dog treats, but they still did not like it. Several of the kibbles were a dark color and looked like they were burned - I put aside a bagful to show the vet - they certainly did not look appetizing. One of our dogs is doing well on the Wellness Small Breed food and another is eating kangaroo pate. I am going to give Hill's Gastrointestinal Biome food another try by ordering a case of the wet food, which unfortunately is often out of stock. So far I am not happy with the quality or availability of Hill's prescription products.

Good for sensitive tummies
By doodle412 on Oct 29, 2021
My doodle has had bouts of diarrhea on and off for years. Even when not having diarrhea, she had a very loud belly, gas, and seemed to feel nauseated often. The vet agreed that a prescription diet might help, so I picked out this one. She has not been on this food very long, but so far it has helped to keep things firm and regular and she seems to like the taste. Her belly sounds have quieted down and gassiness is reduced as well. Lots to like so far.

Hills Prescription Diet Gastrointestinal Biome Chicken Flavor Dry Dog Food
By Debbi on Nov 16, 2021
Two of my dogs, who are elderly & have medical problems were refusing to eat. My vet recommended the above product. I was thoroughly surprised at how rapidly my girls took to eating their food! It's wonderful to know there's a product that dogs respond to when they've given up eating because of their age.

A miracle!
By John on Sep 23, 2021
My poor baby Audrey is a rescue and for the first six months had extremely loose stools with a lot of mucus multiple times per day (sometimes up to 8 times a day!). She was hospitalized three times and after multiple tests by a specialist nothing "serious" was found but there was great concern because her stools were almost always very loose, getting her to eat anything was a major task, she was depressed, and her weight fluctuation was obvious. After $13,000 in tests to rule out anything serious, the dog GI vet specialist from the hospital recommended trying this food and it has worked wonders!! Worked in 24 hours!
By AlisonW on Oct 8, 2021
Our dog has a liver problem and had been suffering from soft stools and diarrhea. The bag said results in 24 hours, so I was skeptical. But it actually worked in 24 hours - stool went back to normal. She has a chronic liver problem, so there are soft stools maybe once a week now, versus every day. She loves the food too! Vet said no treats for a while so I expected some resistance. Add a little water, it makes a gravy, and there's an empty bowl every time. It's actually unbelievable how good this worked for our dog. We're grateful.

Puppy finally gaining weight
By Tigger2 on Sep 29, 2021
My golden puppy has been struggling over 3 months. We've tried sensitive food, probiotic, lots of pumpkin. He's had an ultrasound, X-ray, blood test and multiple fecal tests. At one point he had to go every half hour or hour through the night. He wasn't gaining weight. After 3 days on this food (along with proviable dc probiotics and a fiber supplement) he has had normal BM's and now has been for over a week. Sleeping through the night, gaining weight as a puppy should and can go anywhere.

Took ages to arrive but works well for my dog
By achacha on Oct 31, 2021
This arrived about five days late which is frustrating considering prescription food is not easily accessed in my area. However it has completely stopped my dogs GI issues and he literally dances for his meals now. This is huge considering he has never been a food motivated dog before
